The NMMYC held its second race day of the season on Saturday May 3. Temperatures were pleasant and winds were inconsistent, but there was plenty to get the DF65s moving around the lake. A triangle course was set with a start finishing/line between the windward and leeward marks. Boats crossed the start line heading right to left and then rounded all marks to starboard as they made their way around the course.
Eight skippers set off to racing at the first bell. Mari and Alan had great performances in the first half of racing and the rest of the pack did their best to keep up. Surprisingly, rounding all of the marks to starboard did not result in a bunch of fouls. For the most part skippers made room at the marks and played nice. After the morning break, Mari and Alan continued their winning ways. Coming into the last race of the day Mari held a scant 1 point lead. However, Alan edged her out at the line to finish 1st, resulting in a tie. The tiebreaker went to Alan with his 3 first place finishes.
We were also joined by Jeff who brought 2 vintage Marbleheads and a 10 Rater. He sailed outside the course while we raced, and his boats added a majestic air to the pond.
Our next sailing day will be part of the club championship series. Keep an eye out for updates
