2026 Region 2 DF65 Championship

This year’s 2026 championship was a star-studded event featuring state, regional, national and world champion Skippers in numbers not seen before!  All of the eleven competitors were good enough to win every race. The weather was perfect, the lake water was crystal clear, and the winds were 5 to 8 mph which made for one of the best sailing days of the year. Everyone was excited and it turned out to be an amazing day.

The first three races began by William, Danny and Jarl all taking first place. William then staked his claim on the championship trophy by winning races 4 and 5. Almost all of the races included multiple sailors on the last leg battling hard to some close finishes.  Race 6 was the crowd favorite with Bart and his boat Mahi winning a close one, as Jarl was thwarted by other boat traffic at the line.  Mahi somehow sailed through a little hole at the mark to claim his victory.   Jarl came back strong in race 7 and inched out Danny and Bart for a victory.  Danny won his second race of the day with a great downwind leg in race 8.  Then came the regatta changing finale.

The final race of the day proved to be critical in the final standings. Mahi sailed like he was being chased by a marlin and skirted to a 60-foot lead with only 50 feet to go to the finish line. Then tragedy happened, as he fell into a hole with no wind. Mahi desperately searched for some air as Jarl, then William, and Danny came from the pack to finish 1-2-3.  This was a magnificent way to end the day, as the final standing had Jarl crowned as the First Place Champion, William taking 2nd Place and Danny finishing in 3rd Place.
